Experimentcafé

Veelgestelde vragen

Will my challenge be chosen?

From the list of all submitted challenges, our experts will select one challenge around which Comon will set up an experiment. The jury will consider various criteria: the number of votes, the expertise available at Comon, how relevant the challenge is to Ghent, the potential for a link with technology, and more.

What if the experiment fails?

We may learn more from a failed experiment than a successful one. We specifically choose challenges that offer genuine opportunities for experimentation. Experimenting means trying, and sometimes failing. And that's okay.

What can I expect from Comon?

Comon collects challenges from citizens of Ghent and encourages them to participate in roundtable discussions. After that, we set up an experiment. We'll brainstorm together, work together, and discover the possible outcomes together. It's important to know that we won't arrive at a ready-made solution, that Comon will develop in service of end users. We discover possible solutions together, and figure out how and by whom they can be realized, together.

Comon won't solve my challenge. Why participate?

Participation is always voluntary. But that doesn't mean we lack ambition. What can you expect from us?

  • We communicate and we share insights about the experiment
  • We propose new projects that might arise from these insights
  • We try to incorporate these new insights into existing (research) projects, policy-supporting city projects, or organizations.

We don't know the outcome yet, but the journey is as important as the destination. Are you with us? Comon!

Who can formulate challenges?

Everyone. Especially the 260,000 citizens who care about a healthy Ghent.

Are Comon and De Krook the same thing?

No. 'De Krook' is the name of the building. Comon is the name of the collective of partners based in De Krook. So, Comon will also organize activities in other buildings or locations in Ghent.

What happens to the non-selected challenges?

The other challenges will be made available to Ghent University and the Ghent colleges of applied sciences for community service learning purposes.

How many challenges does Comon want to collect?

To catch one bird in hand, you need ten birds in the sky first. That's why, during step 1, we want to collect as many challenges as possible. Formulate your challenge by starting with 'How can we...'. This will fit nicely among the other challenges to make Ghent a healthier city. Let's go for it together!

My challenge doesn't appear on the website. Why is that?

Once Comon receives your challenge, we'll refine it to align with the formulation of other challenges and encourage citizens to think about it. We'll get in touch with you first. After that, your challenge will be published on the website."
